Pastor Tim and Kathy Newman and family
As a young surfer, Tim Newman moved from California to Hawaii in 1974. It was here in the islands that he finally surrendered his life to the Lord, married his sweet wife Kathy, and began attending church as a new believer at Calvary Chapel of Honolulu.
His relationship with the Lord grew and matured, and soon a Bible study began in Tim and Kathy’s home. With prompting from others and with great humility, Tim began leading and teaching the Bible study, not realizing the full impact it would have on his life. Tim was ordained in 1987 and soon felt God leading him to begin a church on the Windward side of Oahu. Kathy was born and raised in Kailua and the little beach community seemed a like a good fit for the new church plant. Calvary Chapel Windward was started in 1989 and has had the privilege of ministering to the local people of Hawaii and those serving in the military for over 25 years.
Pastor Tim earned his Master’s degree in Religion in 2004, and has enjoyed teaching at the Calvary Chapel Bible College Oahu extension campus as well as various conferences in the islands and abroad. He has been actively involved in missions to Japan, China, and India for almost 20 years, traveling and encouraging the body of Christ all over the world.
Pastor Tim and Kathy have been blessed with two children and six grandchildren. Pastor Tim still enjoys surfing these days, though on a much bigger board. The greatest change, however, has been how God changed a rebellious surfer like him to a man used by God to change the lives of others.
Kevin Oshiro was born and raised in Kaneohe and graduated from Castle High School. He grew up surfing with friends up and down the east side and other surf spots on Oahu.
In 1986, Kevin’s best friend brought him to a college Bible study in Honolulu. In January 1987, Kevin surrendered his life to Jesus. Two years later, he heard about Calvary Chapel Windward, started attending services, and has been here since then.
Kevin graduated from the University of Hawaii in 1994 with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a minor in Gerontology. He also took many classes from Calvary Chapel’s Bible College and a local seminary.
Since 2007, he’s been working for the Hawaii Department of Health, coordinating mental health services for local youth and their families. Kevin is married to the love of his life, Tina, and they have two amazing kids, Emi and Lukie.
Kawika Pearson was born in Hawaii and grew up on the Windward side of Oahu in Kailua. His mother gave her life to Jesus when Kawika was 12 years old and both started attending church. A youth pastor introduced Kawika to Jesus.
Problems at home left Kawika longing for real love, and the comfort, safety, and peace it brings. His young faith faltered and he backslid for many years.
In 1996, Kawika cried out to God, and through a series of events, rededicated his life to the Lord. “God healed my heart, gave me peace, and a desire to reach out to youth the way my youth pastor once did for me.”
Kawika has since been part of several worship and youth ministries. He started attending Calvary Chapel Windward in 2005, joined the worship team in 2007, and began serving in the youth ministry in 2014.
Kawika, his wife Gal, daughter Jahnah, and son Josiah are all active in Calvary
Chapel Windward’s youth ministry.

Kory Ohly was born and raised in a Christian home in California. His parents taught him about Jesus through Bible stories, worship music, Sunday School at the family church, and through Christmas and Easter celebrations.
He accepted Christ as a child, and as an adult realized he needed Jesus as the Lord of his life, not just his Savior.
After visiting a few churches on Oahu, Kory started attending Calvary Chapel Windward in 2012. He was delighted to find the verse by verse Biblical teaching— the hallmark of Calvary Chapel.
