Pastor
Pastor Tim and Kathy Newman and family
As a young surfer, Tim Newman moved from California to Hawaii in 1974. It was here in the islands that he finally surrendered his life to the Lord, married his sweet wife Kathy, and began attending church as a new believer at Calvary Chapel of Honolulu.
His relationship with the Lord grew and matured, and soon a Bible study began in Tim and Kathy’s home. With prompting from others and with great humility, Tim began leading and teaching the Bible study, not realizing the full impact it would have on his life. Tim was ordained in 1987 and soon felt God leading him to begin a church on the Windward side of Oahu. Kathy was born and raised in Kailua and the little beach community seemed a like a good fit for the new church plant. Calvary Chapel Windward was started in 1989 and has had the privilege of ministering to the local people of Hawaii and those serving in the military for over 25 years.
Pastor Tim earned his Master’s degree in Religion in 2004, and has enjoyed teaching at the Calvary Chapel Bible College Oahu extension campus as well as various conferences in the islands and abroad. He has been actively involved in missions to Japan, China, and India for almost 20 years, traveling and encouraging the body of Christ all over the world.
Pastor Tim and Kathy have been blessed with two children and six grandchildren. Pastor Tim still enjoys surfing these days, though on a much bigger board. The greatest change, however, has been how God changed a rebellious surfer like him to a man used by God to change the lives of others.
